Have you ever attended a meeting or event, connected with some great potential strategic partners only to never have contact with them again?
Of course you could blame the other person for not following up with you and that may let you off the hook however, at the end of the day, the relationship is not developing. So what do you think you should do?
How will you keep up with it all? Here are some tips I try follow;
1 – follow up as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to follow through with it.
2 – connect with them on LinkedIn. Once connected on LinkedIn, I’m connected for life. Of course this doesn’t help if you don’t also institute a habit of regularly using LinkedIn.
3 – schedule additional follow ups. I often schedule a regular weekly or monthly appointment in my calendar to remind me to follow up with them.
For many I see them doing a good job of following with prospective clients but not potential strategic partners. We have touched on this a little in previous tips and are talking it about right now in each of WAM! Meetings. If strategic partners are so valuable why do you think so many put so little effort into building them?
Bring your thoughts, ideas, successes and challenges to our next WAM! meeting.
