Do you ever think about things that you were brought up just accepting as normal only to question them now? It seems to me that I find something everyday that I’m questioning.
Over the past couple months I’ve had the same conversation with multiple people. Why do we automatically pursue “a career”? What I mean is, why just one thing?
I know it’s what just about everyone taught me as a young person. “Find you a good job and stick with it until you retire”. Is that what you were taught growing up?
In business, I can’t count the number of times I have heard how good it is to “diversify”.
The irony is now I spend most of my consulting/coaching time helping businesses to specialize and people to diversify.
So yes, I’m telling you that it’s a good thing to have multiple income producing gigs. If one fails, you won’t be left in that horrible position of no income and no idea what to do. Maybe at times one will flourish while another lags. Maybe one of them will just become obsolete but you will have the other(s) to hold you over until you figure out the newest one. And maybe, just maybe, one will take off and exceed all of your financial goals!
What things were you taught, that you just took for normal that you now question?
