Well, my most boring trip of the year will go down as probably my most meaningful one.
Took my dad to Falcon Field in Peachtree Georgia for the Cessna 120/140 convention. Not for the convention so much as to see his old plane.
An almost 10 hour trip with a dementia patient to find out that we were early and only three planes had arrived, followed by an exciting night “hanging out” at the hotel.
I like finding the best local spots to eat wherever I go and the folks at the airport did a great job in recommending a little place called Mimis for breakfast the next morning. We definitely would have never found it on our own as it was located right in the middle of an industrial park and didn’t even have a sign. It was a great traditional breakfast and Mimi was there and cooking.
The new owners finally arrived with dad’s old plane around 5:30pm and dad really started to perk up. He walked a little faster and started inspecting everything on and in the plane.
We then gathered with some of the folks there and many recognized him and started sharing old stories of their previous events. Dad did recognize a couple of them from way back. During this time I pulled the owner aside and inquired about dad being able to get a ride in the plane. She welcomed the idea and said that if I could get him in the plane she would be more than happy to and we scheduled it for the new morning.
I was so excited but didn’t want to share it with dad because I didn’t want him to think and overthink about it all night. That next morning we gathered at the airport and while everyone was standing around talking Lorraine ask “would you like to take a ride in her Lonzo” and it’s the fastest I have seen dad answer a question in a long time. Of course he said yes.
I could go on and on from there but let’s just say he had a great time, he was all smiles and he even got to fly the plane. It was really awesome.
Other than that, my week was boring. Two different friends just bought new homes and I promised to help them with some little projects and since I have to leave for Myrtle Beach Wednesday I have spent most of my time on that.
Hope you have a fantastic week!
