I used to think it was because of the money and even though many will tell you that’s why I don’t think that is the reason.
We live in a society that honors hard work. Everywhere around me I hear people talking about working more and working harder. Why? Why don’t we hear people sharing and excited about working less and taking it easy? Doesn’t that sound more enjoyable?
Another thing I am constantly hearing people talk about is what they bought or what they have spent money on. The reward for working more and harder! I mean that makes sense, if you want to spend more you need to make more. It’s a retailer’s dream. Think about that one for a minute……. Has Corporate America brainwashed into working and spending robots?
What got me thinking about all of this so much was a recent conversation with a friend who recently retired and is already considering going back to work. He has spent over forty years working hard and working long hours. He built and paid for his house, he bought cars and he has the toys, why in the world would he go back to work?
After more conversation I am seeing that he has basically just been on autopilot thinking he needed to work and work and spend and spend for so long that he just doesn’t know what to do now. Of course I was able to present him a lengthy list of things to do that cost little or nothing at all and I hopefully have him on a path now to enjoying life more.
You can’t take that “stuff” with you and you can have a lot of fun without spending big money. Enjoy yourself more.
