How has this year gone for you so far?
I started out the week with a West Richmond Businessmen’s Association board meeting followed by the dinner during which the owners of Three Crosses Distillery gave a great presentation about the whole distillery process, business and their personal story. I’m really glad that I chose to continue my participation and membership with them.
I started Tuesday with another great WAM meeting and ended with another evening of pool league where I lost my first match this season. I started out down two games and made a comeback and got back to within one game. Hopefully I don’t replace my winning streak with a losing streak.
I spent a lot of time with different Marines this week preparing for the monthly meeting. Our commandant, junior vice commandant and judge advocate were all unavailable so I had to lead the meeting by myself. The meeting went well except for the two times I accidentally saluted with an ink pin in the hand I was saluting with. lol
After my meeting on Saturday Michele and I headed down to Myrtle Beach with some friends and we spent that evening just hanging out and playing games in the resort. On Sunday we visited my favorite cigar bar and then found another one with a private pool room in the back. Entering this pool room my friend Tony and I were greeted by about a dozen older men smoking cigars, kicking back drinks, shooting pool and talking shit like only a bunch of old men can. Three or four of them were Navy veterans, a couple more were Army and we had a great time ribbing each other and shooting pool. We finished there and rejoined the wives for dinner at a Brazilian restaurant similar to Texas De Brazil.
While sitting in the cigar lounge and having a long conversation about retirement I was reminded of how glad I am for the decisions I have made. I often question whether or not I should have continued working for just a few more years so that I could of put myself in a better financial situation but conversations like this remind me that had I made that choice I would not have been able to have as much fun, travel as much as I have or spent as much time with family. Those things are far more valuable than nicer vehicles or bigger homes.
I hope you have a fantastic week!
