My Monday last week started with an uber focused work session in the morning during which I was able to complete twenty six tasks on my calendar! I then headed to the gym with my 19 year old grandson who recently moved to Richmond. Of course there was a lot of pop pop vs grandson banter going on before we started and he was doing a good job putting me in place on the pull up bar. However, when we progressed to the pulling and pushing the sled, well that ended with a visit from Henrico county fire & paramedics. Nope, it wasn’t me! Yes, he is fine. Someone didn’t sleep much the night before and didn’t eat any breakfast. In my scorebook though, round one went to pop pop. We hung out the rest of the day and I was able to take advantage of one of great connections and hopefully land my grandson a job.
Tuesday was full of meetings, one with the marketing director of Call Federal Credit Union who is the title sponsor of this years WAM! Charity Golf Classic. The night was capped with pool league. I’m undefeated this so far this session and beat another higher handicapped player. I hope I can keep this streak up for a while.
Wednesday was a great mix of work and personal time. I began with a very intense workout at ACAC in Short Pump and then went to hear and support one of our WAM! Members at 1 Million Cups. This was followed with a great work session with my partner in crime, Shelby Haydel. I got in a little more work before having a little coffee with an old friend who just moved back to Richmond and then capped off the day with an exciting time with some fellow Marines at our first Bullets, BBQ and Beer event. We had a private range at Colonial Shooting Academy where we shot several guns, my favorite being the 44 magnum and then went and hung out together at Mission BBQ. Both places took awesome care of us.
After getting some work in early on Thursday I attended the WAM! Masters meeting and once again got a lot of good stuff from the members there. More work and a good meeting with another potential facilitator for WAM! and it was off to rock wall climbing with WAM! member Patrick Devlin. Patrick showed the ropes and we spent almost two hours exploring the different climbing walls. I can’t wait to do this again. Of course it’s going to take me a little while for my fingers to recover.
I started Friday morning off with another really good workout at ACAC and then went and picked up my father and spent the day with him running errands and eating lunch. I am so grateful that I am able to spend this time with him. Friday evening I went to a watch party. In 2017/2018 I had the opportunity to help an up and coming stock car racing team and this past Friday Howie DiSavino raced in Phoenix Arizona and we all got together at Buffalo Wild Wings on Hull Street and watched the race. Howie will be making his Nascar debut here in Richmond in April. That’s pretty exciting isn’t it?
I spent most of the day Saturday working before enjoying a nice visit to the Buttermilk trail along the James River. A tough but gorgeous five miles. The evening was capped off by taking my baby to the Sweetheart Dance with the West Richmond Businessmen’s Association. The venue, the food and the event as a whole were great. I really enjoy this organization.
My highlight Sunday was spending the day with my great friend Carl, fellow Marine Clint and new friend Troy from the pool league at the Highlands golf course. One day I’m going to learn how to play the game better but just getting out there with friends and playing is always great.
Reflecting, I’m beyond grateful to have found such a great balance of personal, relationship and work time. I’m excited too that I am able to share this with others via the Time Management Workshops I have been hosting.
I hope you have a great week, that you are more productive and that you take time to take care of yourself too.
