And just like that, I’m boring and back to work. Well at least for a couple weeks anyway.
The highlight of my week was getting to sit at home with Michele and basically do nothing but watch tv for two days because of the ice storm and then spend even more time with her on Valentine’s Day enjoying a nice dinner together. Other than that, I spent my time taking care of my father and working on this flip house.
I am looking forward to a little get away next week as Michele and I head out of town for warmer desert weather!
On the WAM! side, I am excited that we are making moves to improve on our meetings even more thus making them even more valuable to our members. I was reminded last week during a conversation with a friend, the value in coaching. They had met with a mutual friend whose business is about to dissolve and she was encouraging our friend to just hang in there and work harder. When I questioned this she rebutted explaining that this is what I had done with my previous landscaping business.
The friend we were talking about doesn’t understand his numbers, doesn’t have a defined plan or goals and while they are great at their trade and have great work ethic, working more and hanging in there are just going to result in more of the same.
I have told the story many times but if it wasn’t for the help I received from the coaches I hired and some of the organizations I joined, I would still be working ridiculous hours, under tremendous stress and struggling financially. It’s not how good you are at your trade or how hard you work. It’s more important to understand how your business actually operates and what you are working for. Being a great mechanic has nothing to do with running a successful shop.
Anyway, hope you had a great Valentine’s Day and hope you have a fantastic week. If I don’t get to you myself next week I’ll write to you again when I return.
